2021 Economic Impact Payments

Information on the Federal Economic Impact Payments (EIP) as part of the Coronavirus Tax Relief.



Payment Overview

As part of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Act, the United States Treasury Department began issuing a third round of Economic Impact Payments in accordance with the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, signed into law on March 11, 2021.

Some people may receive their check via direct deposit or a printed check in the mail, and some may receive a pre-paid debit card. Anyone who received the first two stimulus checks via direct deposit should receive the third check the same way, however, there may be anomalies.

Didn’t Get the First or Second Payment? Claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.

If you didn’t get the full amount of the first and second Economic Impact Payments you were eligible for, claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on a 2020 tax return. Even if you aren’t required to file, you must file a 2020 tax return to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit. To learn more about the Recovery Rebate Credit, visit IRS.gov.
