TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS: Mechanics Cooperative Bank is proud to announce Kate Romero of Bridgewater – Raynham Regional High School, Alice Lynch of Taunton High School, and Brian McDonald Jr. of BMC Durfee High School as the recipients of the 2015 Mechanics Cooperative Bank Scholarship Awards! The Mechanics Cooperative Bank scholarships were created to support local students who excelled in academics, athletics and community service, toward their pursuit for higher education.

Kate Romero recently graduated from Bridgewater – Raynham Regional High School as a member of the National Honor Society and Peer Leadership where she excelled in academics taking courses such as AP English, Chemistry, Biology, and Calculus. In addition to being a top academic performer, Kate was also a dedicated volunteer in her community working as a Good Samaritan Hospital Volunteer, for the American Red Cross and as a Nursing Home Pianist. Kate was also committed to extracurricular activities including the Marching Band, Concert Band, the Math Team and she also competed as a Science Olympiad. Kate will be attending Worchester Polytechnic Institute this fall and will major in Biomedical Engineering/Medicine.

Alice Lynch recently graduated from Taunton High School with an outstanding career clearly showing her dedication to both her school and her academics. In addition to being a member of the National Honor Society, Alice also participated in the Latin Club, the Model UN, Taunton High School Theater, the Publications Club and Chorus. Her commitment to these activities proved impressive considering Alice was also taking such demanding courses as AP Biology, Chemistry, US History and English. Alice will be attending Emerson Collage in the fall and will major in Writing and Communication.

Brian McDonald Jr. was the third and final recipient of the 2015 Mechanics Cooperative Bank Scholarships as a graduate from BMC Durfee High School with an impressive career in academics, athletics and community service. Brian played Varsity Golf and Tennis in addition to the Sixth Man Club where he served as President his Senior Year, the Freedom Writers Club and as a member of Unified Sports. In addition, Brian managed an impressive GPA while taking Honors English, Calculus, Biology and US History. Brian will be attending Bryant University and will major in Business Marketing and Management. This specific scholarship awarded to Brian in the amount of $1,000 was made in memory of Raymond H. Bibeau, President and CEO of Lafayette Federal Savings Bank for over 30 years. This annual scholarship was created as a result of the merger between Lafayette and Mechanics Cooperative Bank in 2008 and honors Mr. Bibeau’s lifelong commitment to education and support of our local community.
